Georgina Restaurante, Un Perfecto Brunch in Tijuana, Mexico

With any trip preparation, I diligently work at researching all a city has to offer, with an emphasis on food and cultural destinations. I am a Virgo through and through if that means anything to you. I had been tracking the evolution of the Tijuana gastronomy scene for the past few years and I was beside myself with the number of restaurants I had added to my list. From street food to fine dining, Tijuana, Mexico has an abundance of culinary options and I was about to be in heaven.

Georgina Restaurante first appeared on my radar when I was reading Life & Food, the most comprehensive blog about food and lodging alongside the USA / Mexican border. When I saw the restaurant was at the helm of Tijuanera Adria Marina, a smart young chef who was in the kitchen at one of L.A.’s buzziest restaurants, République, and worked alongside chef Javier Plascencia at Misión 19, it rose to the top of my list. Raves upon raves about Georgina’s brunch whet the whistle of this cappuccino and avocado toast-loving bon vivant.

The Food

This is modern food of Baja California. The flavors are international, informed by the chef’s travels around the world but updated Mexican dishes with familair ingredients have a strong standing on the menu. The aguacate y pan was unlike any others I had eaten before, it was completely unique. Crisp-shaved cucumbers and radish lay atop a layer of savory hummus and avocado, sprinkled with sumac and nigella seeds. I’ve been meaning to recreate this Mediterranean-inspired masterpiece at home. If there are ricotta pancakes on a menu, I will order them, better yet when the bright citrus flavor of lemon is involved. Pancakes de limon y ricotta with frambuesas was a delightful sensation in my mouth. Although on the heavier side, Benedictos y Hot Chicken, is an excellent choice for Eggs Benedict lovers. Check out Georgina Restaurante’s menu on Open Table.

The Scene

Bright whites, bulbous lights, and architectural curves mark the dining room of Georgina. It’s modern and fun with plush velvet accents. The brunch crowd was diverse in age and style, but clearly all were interested in good food.
